PROGRAMAS CORPORATIVOS DE IGUALACIÓN DE DONACIONES Y SUBVENCIONES PARA VOLUNTARIOS

¿Su empleador ofrece programas de igualación de donaciones o subvenciones para voluntarios destinados a organizaciones sin fines de lucro? ¡Si es así, puede duplicar (¡y a veces triplicar!) sus donaciones al PTO! Las donaciones corporativas igualadas son contribuciones realizadas por una empresa a una organización sin fines de lucro que un empleado ya ha apoyado. Los empleadores suelen promocionar sus programas de igualación durante eventos como el Giving Tuesday (Martes de Dar), pero generalmente ofrecen igualación de donaciones durante todo el año. Sin embargo, pueden ofrecer mejores proporciones de igualación en ciertos días, por ejemplo, 2:1 en el Giving Tuesday.

 

Los programas de subvenciones para voluntarios ("Dollars for Doers" o "Dólares por Hacer") permiten a las empresas realizar donaciones monetarias a organizaciones sin fines de lucro donde sus empleados son voluntarios regulares. ¡Su tiempo como voluntario en el Fund Run, el Baile de San Valentín o la Semana de Arte y Ciencia también puede generar fondos para el PTO!

COMPANIES OFFERING MATCHING AND VOLUNTEER GRANT SCHEMES

The following companies are examples of those offering donation matching schemes to their employees. Does your company offer matching or volunteer grants? Let us know, and we can add information here to help other families.

3M

  • Annually Matched: $1 – $1,000 

  • Match ratio: 1:1 

  • Eligible employees: full-time, part-time ​

3M not only matches cash, checks, and online gifts, but it also matches securities exchanges, allowing for more flexibility and tax benefits for employees. They make payroll deductions simple so employees can truly automate their giving (and the match!). 3M also donates $20/employee volunteer hour, up to $500, per calendar year.

American Express

  • Matched: $25 – $8,000 

  • Match ratio: Up to 2:1 

  • Eligible employees: full-time, part-time

Though American Express typically matches gifts using a 1:1 ratio, they encourage more nonprofit involvement from employees. For example, if an employee serves on a nonprofit board or volunteers for more than 50 hours a year, the first $1,000 donated to that nonprofit will be matched at a 2:1 ratio.

Apple Inc. 

  • Matched: $1 – $10,000 

  • Match ratio: 1:1 

  • Eligible employees: full-time, part-time

 

There is basically no minimum that needs to be met to qualify for a matching gift; if an employee gives just $10, Apple will match the donation. No minimum number of volunteer hours is required to qualify for a volunteer grant. Every qualified hour can be eligible for a $25 volunteer grant. Please make sure to read and follow all the policies and agree to the employee terms of use.

Bank of America 

  • Matched: $24 – $5,000 

  • Match ratio: 1:1 

  • Eligible employees: full-time, part-time

Bank of America allows employees to request matching gifts and volunteer grants through March 31 of the following year, offering a set timeline for your organization to solicit unmatched Bank of America donors. Organizations then have until May 15 to verify any employee’s donation.

Walmart

  • Matched: $250 – $25,000 

  • Match ratio: 3:1 

  • Eligible employees: full-time

Walmart offers an executive-level match for donations made to most nonprofits including: Educational institutions, Health and human services, Arts and cultural organizations, Civic and community organizations, Environmental organizations, and most 501 (c)(3) organizations

Home Depot

  • Matched: $25 – $3,000 

  • Match ratio: 1:1 

  • Eligible employees: full-time, part-time 

 

A beneficial aspect of The Home Depot’s corporate matching gift program is that it distributes matching gifts to organizations monthly. Plus, donors can track the real-time status of their pending match(es) through their Home Depot Foundation online account.

Google

  • Matched: $1 – $10,000 

  • Match Ratio: 1:1 

  • Eligible employees: full-time, part-time

In addition to its generous donation matching, Google matches employees volunteer hours. Google designates 20 hours of annual volunteer PTO, on top of offering volunteer grants matching those hours. For every hour an employee volunteers, Google will donate $10 to the nonprofit organization.

Starbucks

  • Matched: $25 – $1,000 

  • Match ratio: 1:1 

  • Eligible employees: full-time, part-time

Starbucks created a philanthropic program called “Partner Match” for their U.S. employees. This program matches gifts up to $1,000. The volunteer grant amount is $5/hour, and employees are given an annual 20 hours of volunteer PTO.

State Farm

  • Matched: $25 – $4,500 

  • Match Ratio: 1:1 

  • Eligible employees: full-time

State Farm has a long-standing history of matching associates’ donations, as well as offering a Good Neighbor Grant Program. With associates all over the country, State Farm supports thousands of U.S. nonprofits.
